First broadcast on Saturday, 4 September 1976 on BBC1, The Two Ronnies' Four Candles sketch is 36 years old today. Written by Ronnie Barker under his oft used pseudonym Gerald Wiley, it's word play and homophones showcase Barker's fascination with the English language and both are used to powerful comic effect.  Barker later re-wrote the ending of the sketch, citing the reason as dissatisfaction with the obscurity of the bill-hooks reference. Ronnie Corbett (CBE) was given a special Layer Eight Christmas treat this year when his grandchildren arrived on Christmas Day all wearing our Two Ronnies Glasses t-shirts.
